Colt Firearms
There was a post-civil war slogan that read, "Abe Lincoln
may have freed all men, but Sam Colt made them equal" If
Sam Colt could have heard this it would have been a dream come
true. Samuel Colt was born on July 19th 1814 and died at the age
of 47. Colt firearms were to become such a major part of American
life that some 19th century historians even go so far as to say
that they changed the course of history. It was certain however
that Sam Colt became rich and famous through his invention probably
more so than any inventor of his day.
Colt firearms had their first factory built in Paterson, New
Jersey in 1836; NJ at that time was one of America's most rapidly
expanding centers of manufacturing. Colt had an uncle who was
already a successful businessman and he helped the young 22-year-old
Sam to form the new business, Colt firearms. Samuel became the
companies’ chief salesman and new business development manager.
Many of us have seen Colt firearms on TV, such as Dirty Harry's
(Clint Eastwood) twin Colt 45's that have the awesome firepower
of an elephant gun. Colt today have come a long way since their
early days and their retail outlets are to be found all across
the USA. Anyone interested in learning more about firearms can
